Essay on the current pork scam

Bitter words have been uttered by both camps of the perpetrators and victim of this scam. Words such us “mga baboy”, “Matandang mayaman sa kasamaan”, “pogi sa perang kurakot”,“sexy na walang hiya”, representathieves are very common in our newspapers. These words reflect the deep sentiments of the Filipino people. The pig which they said as the mastermind of this scam in not just an ordinary pig. Her IQ is far above than these senators and congressmen who were involve in the crime. She is just too clever to exploit the weaknesses of our politicians and our political institutions. There is a saying, “Kung may gusot, makalusot”. Before roasting this pig with  fiery words, let us ask ourselves “If we are in the shoes of this genius pig, would we not do the same”? Save those filthy words or I will call you hypocrite. Because even the holy pastor are not exempted to think twice to baptize a noisy cat if the owner has just dropped millions in his donation box. If you have an idea of earning millions out of doing small paper works why would you need to toil eight hours a day, seven days a week and probably you will become  millionaire only after ten years without eating and without having vacation.
The ingenuity of the Filipinos is known to the whole world, “magaling ang pinoy, magaling tayo sa palusot”. Why not use our talents and intelligence in building our nation? We been through a lot of hardship from economic poverty and political instability after the war, during the dictatorship of Marcos and with all the natural calamities that passed in our country.  Where is the saying, “Filipinos are worth dying for”? Thirty years ago,  one man offered his life in the tarmac to build our nation but now we are still dying with shame being considered as one of the poorest country in Asia. In spite of all the odds, Philippines economy is growing with the average growth rate above 6 percent. If the government can maintained this for ten years our country would become the pearl of the Orient once again. In spite of all the corruption that is going on in our country we still have the chance to see a brighter tomorrow with all the contribution and sacrifices of all the oversea workers that assures billions of remittance per year. May our law makers learn the courage and self sacrifice of our migrant workers.
Change is a painful and long process. We could not change our country by just changing the location of the pork barrel or changing the name of the PDAF or DAF.  All I can say is that the majority decides where to put this money where there is  the greater possibility that this money could not be used by anybody for personal interest or political advantage.  We could not change our country overnight but we can change our perspective now. “Kung gustong magpalusot dapat bayan ay di maiipit baka sa huli sa wheel chair ka rin kakapit”.

May God bless our country with true Faith, our priceless wealth.
